The creator of a new type of art, icon generator and most recognized and controversial American artist of the second half of the 20th century, Andy Warhol, was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA), within a Humble family of Slovak immigrants, originally from Miková, previously Austro-Hungarian Empire.

He was a true lover of the Hollywood world and was a loyal reader of movie magazines, from which he cut out the photographs of some celebrities such as Mae West or Shirley Temple. After the dazzle that supposed the fame of these personages, he decided that what he wanted in the world was to be rich and famous. In words of the artist: "I wanna be a million dollar artist".

In 1945 he began his studies in Artistic Design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh). There he coincided with professors like Robert Lepper, Samuel Rosenberg or Howard Worner. From them, he absorbed an attitude that promoted art as part of the social fabric, in which artists with their technical, anthropological and social skills, integrate their work in an urban and industrial society.

In 1949 he moved to New York, premiering with Glamor magazine and starting an unstoppable success. He abandoned commercial design to be exclusively a renowned artist, powering the "pop art" movement.
